“God designed us to crave His presence like nothing else, and to receive our ultimate fulfillment not from our job, friends, spouse, hobbies, kids, or achievements but rather from our relationship with the Creator of our soul.”
Exodus 20:3 You shall have no other gods before me.
When we think of idols, images from movies like Indiana Jones quickly call to mind; or maybe you recall the golden calf the Israelites made. You might even conjure up ideas that are shared in the New Testament such as Matthew 6 where Jesus makes it clear that you cannot serve both God and money.
Idolatry really goes much deeper than that. It is ANYTHING that comes before God. Anything. That includes the good things that God may want for us like family, spouses, jobs, etc.
How do you watch for idols in your life? How do you deal with idols that you have seen creep into your life?
