“Dying to ourselves means relinquishing control. Relinquishing our rights and expectations so that we can please Christ above all. It’s trusting Him to lead us toward His very best and it’s viewing everything through an eternal perspective.”
“Then he said to them all: ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.’” Luke 9:23
When we become followers of Christ, we are reborn into his family. Our old self dies and we are made new, covered by the righteousness of God. But this means, as Jennifer states, relinquishing control daily in order to follow and please Jesus. This means denying to oneself, which in our culture is unheard of, and walking in willing obedience to Christ.
Do you struggle to relinquish control in your life? In certain areas of your life? Have you ever justified your need to have control over something and later realized you were standing in God’s way to lead you, as Jennifer puts it, “towards His very best”?
